The passenger is yet to be formally identified.

The car is believed to be the same one that was stolen from the Reservoir area on either July 15 or 16.

There are delays on the Burwood Highway with the road closed to city-bound traffic between Station Street and Middleborough Road.

That stretch of the highway will be closed for some time as police investigate the scene.

Drivers have been urged to use Highbury Road or Canterbury Road as alternatives and allow extra time.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, have dashcam footage or know the whereabouts of the driver have been urged to contact police.
