Manchester United are looking to sign a goalkeeper this summer, with Atletico Madrid stalwart Jan Oblak one of their targets.

United currently have three, highly paid stoppers on their books in David de Gea, Dean Henderson and Sergio Romero. De Gea remains the club’s number one, although Henderson has been starting more recently with the Spaniard on personal leave following the birth of his first child.

As reported by 90min earlier this week, the former Sheffield United loanee is said to be losing patience with playing second fiddle, and although United are keen to promote him they do not want De Gea sitting on the bench.

The Red Devils have asked Henderson to be patient and wait until the situation develops at the end of the season, with Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund among the clubs circling should he decide to leave. However, according to Sky Sports, things could get even messier in the goalkeeping department this summer.

They claim that De Gea may push for a move back to one of the Madrid clubs to be closer to his family. If he does depart, United are ready to enter the market for a new goalkeeper. Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak – recently ranked the best goalkeeper in the world by 90min – is one target, although they may not be able to afford his £103m release clause.

United could use De Gea as leverage in order to lower Oblak’s valuation, but he only has two years left on his deal and is also two years order than the Atletico stopper.

Another possible target is Milan number one Gianluigi Donnarumma, who would be available on a free transfer in the summer if he does not extend his contract. Lille’s Mike Maignan, previously tracked by Chelsea, is also being considered.
