Marnus Labuschagne has suffered a dispiriting return to county cricket for Glamorgan, suffering a freak hand injury even before play started – and then getting dismissed cheaply in his comeback innings.
The Australian Test batsman, back in the Glamorgan side after only arriving in Cardiff earlier in the week, suffered a hand problem when he fell on the steps while entering the field before play started in the county championship match against Kent on Thursday.
The third best Test batsman in the world did take part in the morning session but missed part of the afternoon while his hand was assessed, although he then returned to the field again as Kent were bowled out for just 138.
In Glamorgan’s reply, Labuschagne was dismissed for just 11, trapped lbw by the English game’s oldest active professional player, 44-year-old Darren Stevens, as the Welsh county went on to end day one on 2-109.
Worryingly, Labuschagne’s hand injury did seem to be troubling him during his 37-ball knock.
