A 10-month-old baby has allegedly been caught up in a terrifying road rage attack in Adelaide’s southern suburbs.

The alleged victim was punched and his car damaged in the incident, which was caught on camera.

The alleged attack happened on Beach Road at Hackham West, with the driver claiming he was punched through his open window after being followed by an L-plate driver.

Dashcam video shows the moment when the altercation first began, just before 3pm on Sunday.

A woman attempts to rip the side mirror off the man’s car as they pulled up on the Southern Expressway.

The driver says he was boxed in so he attempts to push the L-plater’s Nissan forward, which appears to aggravate the other driver.

Things escalated around the corner on Beach Road as the Nissan driver allegedly punched the victim several times.

7NEWS understands a baby was in the car at the time of the incident.

The 25-year-old L-plate driver from Old Noarlunga was charged by police with assault and property damage and refused bail.

He will face the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on November 4.
