A Woolworths customer has claimed to make an unsettling discovery in a ready-to-eat salad.

Sharing on Twitter, the shopper said she was shocked to find a large wasp in the colourful Kaleslaw Slaw Kit.

To the naked eye, it is difficult to see the dead insect among the colourful vegetables.

But a closer look shows the yellow and black wasp among the pieces of kale, carrot and cabbage.

The shopper claimed the inset was so camouflaged, she almost didn’t see it as she was preparing her meal.

“I found a wasp in my Woolworths Kaleslaw salad! Almost ate it in my wrap,” she wrote.

Woolworths responds
